In “A Rose for Emily,” Miss Emily’s actions shock the reader—she kills her fiancé and keeps his body in her home for years. People often react with disbelief when they hear about real-life stories that seem just as unbelievable. Write about the most shocking or “craziest” news story you have ever heard. What happened, and why did it stand out to you? How did people react to it, and what does it reveal about human behavior?

Prompt Response:  One of the shocking news story I have heard was during World War II when Japanese forces committed many atrocities in the territories they controlled. For example, the Nanjing Massacre saw the mass killing of people and sexual violence which left deep trauma for those who experience those events. This stood out to me because I could not believe how Japanese forces could do such horrible things to other people, especially to children. Atrocities and genocide in the world revealed the extent of human cruelty, greed, and indifference.

Summary: We finished reading "A Rose for Emily,” and watch a short film about it. 

Reflection: Get ready for the assessment on Friday and finish the blog.

  Prompt Response: The conversation that change me was a conversation about a growth mindset. In one of my classes, I met a new guy in my life and we gradually became friends. Prompt Response:  The chapter that stood out to me was chapter 6. In chapter 6, McCandless met Franz who was a like father figure to him. This chapter is interesting to me because it shows how McCandless was a charismatic person that was able to make meaningful, brief relationships along his journey. Prompt Response:  I would choose gifts, kind notes, and camera to show my love for the people I care about. I love making gifts for others and finding things that make me remember them. I also like writing nice things about them to remind them how special they are to me and because I tend to be shy to say it out aloud. Finally, I would choose a camera to take pictures of them and remember the happy memories. I feel these objects show how I tend to show my love through mostly small actions that make the other person feel special to me and show how considerate and thoughtful I am.  Summary: Today we wrote a poem to someone we care and love about.
