Many holidays center around traditions. Describe one tradition that is important to you or your family and explain why it still matters (or why it no longer does).

Prompt Response:   One tradition that my family does are Las Posadas which in English is " The Inns." This is to commemorate the journey of Mary and Joseph when they were searching for a place to rest in Bethlehem. We walked a certain distance while singing songs to represent how their journey was tiring.  After it finishes we have food and more music. This is important because it a part of our religion and its a tradition that I lived through growing up.  Summary: ( had no class) Reflection: ---

As the first semester comes to an end, take time to reflect on your learning and growth in this course. In a well-developed response, explain what you enjoyed most about the class, identify the project or assignment you found most engaging, and discuss which aspect of the course you connected with the most (such as poetry, fiction, writing, or discussion). Finally, reflect on one area where you feel you need additional support or improvement as we move into the spring semester.

Prompt Response:   The one thing that I enjoyed most about this class is drawing and coloring for different assignments. For example, the comic strip we did for the vocabulary words was something I had fun with and showed my creativity. One thing I connected with were the poems we read and analyzed. I found I related so much with " Birches" by Robert Frost because I reflected on how my childhood was so important to me and how it shaped me. Finally, I believe I need to improve my writing skills.  Summary: -- Reflection:  --

How have the holidays changed as you have grown older? Compare your experiences of the holidays during childhood with how you experience them now, focusing on shifts in perspective, responsibilities, or emotional meaning.

Prompt Response:   One thing that has changed about Christmas is that I received less gifts.  Growing up in my country, I don't have memories of any of my Christmas gift or if I even got some, maybe that was not the most important part back then, rather it was the fireworks, decoration, and a warm dinner that brought my whole family together. Everything changed during my first Christmas in the U.S. back in 2016, when I woke up to find many gifts to open. I was overjoyed but gradually the gifts became less and less. However, even if it's just one, the gifts have become more meaningful to me.  Summary: Today we started vocabulary lesson 6.   Reflection:   I finished making my own sentence for each vocabulary term.

Write about the best gift you have received.

Prompt Response:   The best gift I have received was a 3D wooden puzzle for Christmas a few years ago. During that time I had been watching videos of the process to built these wooden puzzles and I fell in love with the process. Once I got my hands on the puzzle box, I immediately started building it. I spread the pieces across the table and chose them according to the blue print. I loved the soft clicks as each piece slid into alignment. I found it truly fascinating how a person thought of this magnificent idea to create a 2D puzzles into a 3D. I thought maybe this is something that architects have to think about when they make new structures. Just how I took a long time building my puzzle, they also take a very long time to see their creativity come true. This is why the 3D wooden puzzle was my favorite gift.  Summary: Today we worked on new vocabulary and worked on the identity mask.  Reflection:   I finished the vocabulary exercise.

Write about something you’ve outgrown but still miss.

Prompt Response:  One thing that I have outgrown was a reindeer shirt. This reindeer shirt was so special to me because it had a button where the nose would light. My family and neighbors gave me many compliments which made me feel happy, and gave me a boost of confidence. I miss the shirt not only for the compliments but also because it was very cute.  Summary: Today we did a vocabulary test from lessons 1 through 5. Reflection:   I finished the vocabulary test and got a good grade on it.

Write about something that you can't stop thinking about.

Prompt Response:   Something I can't stop thinking about what I will do after graduating high school. I am not sure of what I want to dedicate my life towards. I am at a point in my life where I need to choose the best path for myself. I want to make sure that once I am successful. Summary: Today we went to the library for course recommendation  Reflection:  I decided on what I will be taking next year.

Write a reflection about the creation process of the mask or presenting it to the class.

Prompt : My mask is representing the things I love and things that are important in my life. Making my mask made me reflect on the things I do and don't like and made me realize that there are many things that I still need to discover about myself.  Summary : We presented our mask  Reflection : I presented and did a good job.

After watching the short film Identity, write a blog post reflecting on how the masks in the film represent the pressure to fit in and the struggle to discover who you really are. Choose one moment from the film that stood out to you and explain why. Then, connect the film’s message to Langston Hughes’ poem “I, Too” and to the mask you are creating in class. What part of your identity do you want your mask to reveal?

Prompt Response:  In the film everyone is wearing a mask. All of the students wearing a mask influenced the girl into wearing one too because if she didn't, she was going to look different. Finding one's identity is very hard because there are many people doing their own things or just following the trends, so it makes it hard to distinguish where one belongs. One thing that stood out to me in the film was the fact the teachers were not wearing a mask because it showed how when you grow older you realize who you are. This connects to the poem because just like a poem acknowledges his place in the world, the film recognizes her identity. I want my mask to reveal my culture.  Summary: We read and analyzed a new poem and watched a video  Reflection:  We worked on making a mask that reveals our identity.

In “I, Too,” the speaker expresses pride in his identity and his rightful place in America. Reflect on your own life: What aspect of your cultural identity are you most proud of, and why?

Prompt Response: One thing I am proud of in my cultural is the language. I love how Spanish sounds very beautiful, especially in a very flattering accent. Since it comes from Latin, Spanish makes it easier to learn another language like Italian. I love how when you learn a language you get to talk and meet other people and learn about their culture too.   Summary: We worked on an assignment about "We Real Cool" and read the new poem.   Reflection:   I finished the questions for "We Real Cool" and started on the assignment for the new poem.

In “We Real Cool,” the speakers make choices that seem exciting, bold, and rebellious, even though those choices lead to consequences. Write about a moment in your own life when you followed what looked cool or fun, only to realize afterwards that it wasn’t the smart or responsible path. What influenced your decision, and how did your perspective change later?

Prompt Response:  I decided to ride on a swing ride that swung really high which I thought looked fun. There was a very long line for that ride and I saw that people were laughing and saying it was fun, so I decided to ride it. Back then I didn't know that I was actually scared of heights, and when it swung very high, I instantly regretted it so much. I realized I should trust my instincts, rather than being influenced by what others find fun or amusing.  Summary:  We read and analyzed a new poem and filled out a chart of what is consider cool or not cool. Reflection:  I filled in the chart and turned in the paper.

Discuss something meaningful or memorable you experienced over the break, or reflect on what you felt most thankful for during that time.

Prompt Response:  I felt most thankful for my family during the break. My mom has always tried her best to provide for my sibling and I. I feel grateful for the silly things my siblings do and for the things they have taught me, like being more responsible and taking care of my own things. Lastly, I am happy that my family's health is great.  Summary: We did new vocabulary with some exercises 1 and 4.  Reflection:  I turned in the vocabulary exercises 1 and 4.
